Gentle Baby Cream

One of our favorite routines with our kids is giving them little gentle baby massages after bath time and when they’re skin is in need of a good moisturizing.  We use a homemade gentle baby cream from head to tow helping soothe and comfort, especially in the dry and colder months.  Beyond the wonderful healthy skin benefits, this blend just smells so good.  It is a favorite to diffuse in the nursery and one I used throughout my whole pregnancy.  You could also make a nice linen spray with this oil blend and give you little one’s bedding a light spray before nap time.
Gentle Baby Oil Blend contains the oils from the following plants: lavender, geranium, roman chamomile, rosewood, jasmine, palmarosa, rose, bergamot, ylang ylang, and lemon.  It is both soothing and calming, and is gentle enough for little bodies.

Our Gentle Baby Cream:

With a hand mixer, whip 1/2 cup of organic coconut oil and 1/4 cup of shea butter until smooth.  Add 30 drops of Gentle Baby Oil Blend (you can add a few drops of lavender to this if you are wanting to help calm your uterus down) to the whipped oil mixture and blend in.  Melt one teaspoon of organic bees wax pellets in a mason jar.  You can do this using a double boiler method on the stove.  Once the bees wax is melted, and stir oils mixture into the wax until fully incorporated.  Store in a cool place overnight to let set.  This mixture will harden a little bit creating a soothing yet very soft body balm for your little love.
  • Lindsay - Hello,

First off I wanted to thank you for such a great blog and wonderful photos on your instagram feed. Its a joy to follow.

My family is just getting started with essential oils. My little babes have been frequently ill this winter, and both have very sensitive skin. I cant wait to get moving with this new positive transition in our home.

We are wanting to add baby 3 into our family but want more information on using essential oils during pregnancy – what I read is mixed… can you provide any information for me? Or even direct me to some books or other blogs that could help educate me before I get started?

    Thanks and much love,

  • Meagan - Hello!

I’ve been following you for awhile now and absolutely love your instagram feed, blog and seeing your family’s perspective on life! You’ve also been a huge influence in introducing essential oils into our home.

I have a few friends who are expecting babies and I wanted to give them a small baby survival kit with essential oil remedies. Not having children of my own, I’m a bit lost. Do you have any suggested recipes or things you couldn’t live without now?

    All the best,

  • Shannon - Hello! I have had this recipe bookmarked for so long, and finally made this cream last night. However, it never hardened! It is quite liquidy, which I don’t really understand because all the ingredients are solid at room temp…? Do you have any suggestions for saving it? I put in 30 precious drops of gentle baby and really don’t want it to go to waste. 🙁 Thanks!ReplyCancel

    • admin - Shannon, darn! Okay no problem, you can add beeswax pellets to this and it will harden right up! I’d do a tablespoon melted and then add them to your cream. Let that sit out Sometimes the different products harden and melt for whatever reason but your concoction should not be lost, dear. Let me know how this works out! x AmandaReplyCancel

      • Shannon - Thank you for your reply, Amanda! So a beautiful thing happened… I put off dealing with my cream for a few days until I had the time to play with the concoction tonight, and when I opened it… It had solidified! I don’t get it.. It was liquid for two full days! How strange and convenient. Now to slather it all over my growing belly 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Rachel Clem - Hi Amanda,

A year or two ago you mentioned making an Exzema cream for Theo. It may have been on your other website because I can’t find it. Is this the same recipe?

  • Stefanie Phelps - Hi Amanda, I have had this pinned for ages and finally made it:) why did I wait so long it’s wonderful!!! I did have an issue with the beeswax getting solid but might be bc I mixed it into the cold ingredients. Will do it the other way next time! My Charles loved it right away! Thank youReplyCancel
