Show + Tell | Ing’s Of Late Spring

  1. Adventuring: outdoors with my little crew as much as possible. We have been picking two new places each week to explore and it has been a lot of fun. If you are in Kansas City, check out the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Lakeside Nature Center, and Deanna Rose!
  2. Dreaming: about our BIG family camping trip to Yosemite this summer! Do ya’ll camp? Here’s a list of what we’ll be packing.
  3. Cooking: so many salads with goat cheese now that our lettuce is up and growing. I suppose it’s more like assembling than cooking, but I just love my greens. A favorite is arugula, strawberries, walnuts, goat cheese, and red wine vinaigrette.
  4. Reading: An Altar In The World by Barbara Brown Taylor – it’s one of the most beautiful books on spirituality I’ve ever read.
  5. Swapping: Out heavy bed linens from heavier winter wools and down to simpler summer ones to lightning things up. You can read about making a summer bed here.
  6. Painting: A little old dresser we found at a garage sale, our back door, an possibly our house! I am stuck on colors at the moment, but we are narrowing them down to a linen color, light earthy green, or possibly dusty blue. Decisions, decisions.
  7. Podcasting: with Oprah over at SuperSoul Conversations – this one is a current favorite about conscious parenting and how it can change the world. I highly recommend!
  8. Working: on myself in the Homesong Wholeness Project – a self-care reflection that is watering the drought-stricken parts of my whole self in body, mind, heart and soul.
  9. Sipping: lemon balm sun tea, reminding me of my mama.
  10. Loving: early mornings on the porch with Andrew, the paper, cups of coffee, and the kids buzzing around (see above).
  11. Chopping: fresh herbs to go on everything. I believe that a dusting of herbs and a squeeze of citrus is what makes all meals come alive, no matter the season.
  12. Listening: to a lot of Billie Holiday and this Summery Parisian Playlist on Spotify
  13. Wearing: these comfy sandals basically all day, everyday.
  14. Shopping: at the farmer’s markets on both Wednesday and Saturday. We are limiting all fresh produce to local + seasonal goods to support our little community of growers. Here is one of my favorite market bags.
  15. Diffusing: heaps of rosemary, lavender, and lemon oils. That is one of my favorite scents in the kitchen and it helps purify the air.
  16. Swatting: flies! ack.
  17. Making: naturally dyed play silk “wrapping paper” (see above) and a gnome hat for Stella’s play at the end of the school year. She is gnome #2 and is quite proud.
  18. Lighting: this insanely yummy candle (see above) from Golden & Pine, a local handmade homewares shop.
  19. Practicing: more morning mediation before the hustle and bustle of mom life.
  20. Praying: for my dear grandma who has dementia. It’s been a hard season for her and our family.

  • Lili - I dream of Yosemite! My family went camping there every year as a child! It is a magical and most special place. I can’t wait to hear about your trip.

Also, I listened to that podcast this just this morning and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and how I parent my children. An excellent recommendation!ReplyCancel

  • Jessie - My family is also doing a Yosemite camping trip this summer! I’ve been several times by myself but this is my first time with family (2 year old son, 10 and 11 year old siblings and my mom) in early July. I am so excited but oh so intimidated. hahaReplyCancel

  • Saba - Amanda,
would you recommend “AN ALTAR IN THE WORLD” to Non-Christians also? Thanks.ReplyCancel

    • admin - Saba, absolutely. It’s written by a former pastor who teaches world religion, and it’s way more spiritual and philosophical than religious. I am almost done and am sad it’s almost over! x AmandaReplyCancel

  • Nicole Spring Frontierdreams - Yess! To the playsilk wrapping paper. I have always done that with gifts in our home. I keep meaning to dye more for Christmas time.ReplyCancel

  • Nicole Spring Frontierdreams - Oh and what is you ratio on the oils to diffuse? I want to try that one!ReplyCancel
