Welcome to the annual Homesong Rest Retreat. To those of you who have been here before, welcome back! Like you, I have been eagerly awaiting this sacred time to slow down and turn inward off social media for a month. And to those of you who have decided to join us this year, we are humbled you’ve chosen to spend time working with us. It is a meaningful commitment you are making to go against the grain and step outside of the flow as we begin a new decade together. Shifting habits and forging new ones isn’t always easy, but it’s almost always worth it.
Above you can read about this retreat, why I’ve created it, in addition to seeing our weekly rhythm for the month of January. On the first you can expect a more detailed welcome, along with a mindful contemplation to begin our retreat of REST. Similar to previous retreats, each week is themed along the word: REST. I am going to post all Rest Retreat information here on this blog, and it is up to you to either check in weekly or subscribe. You can do that at the top under the Contact tab.
I also recommend you gather a few tools before beginning, such as a notebook and a favorite pen to journal in as we journey together. There will be many opportunities in the coming days for you to reflect and ponder, and keeping your stirrings together in one thoughtful place will be a good practice to cultivate in lieu of scrolling and tapping. In addition to something to write with and on, find a calming place in your home that you can return to for solitude throughout the retreat. It can be a comfy chair, an old desk, or a corner tucked away where you’ll be able to carve out time undisturbed. Returning to this space over and over again will begin to send you signals, little messages to slow down and sink into the present moment as you begin to sift and edit during this meditative time.
And lastly, delete all or however many social media accounts from your phone that you wish to take a break from. No one will be experiencing this retreat in the same way, nor should this retreat limit you if you need to use such apps or means of communicating for work, personal reasons, or otherwise. You get to choose how you wish to experience these weeks, not I. With that being said, you may want to share that you are doing this retreat so others can respect the boundary you have established, especially if you use social media for business, or simply not to. Sharing also helps with accountability, so you are less likely to give in and pop on in the heat of the moment. But it doesn’t matter how you begin, only that you do.
I am so glad you are here, and hope you have a beautiful evening welcoming in 2020! I will send you a little letter tomorrow on the 1st, and until then, blessings abound as we begin this fresh new year and decade together.
xx Amanda
