I am all about making the most practical bits of our home ones that are beautiful, too. I feel that if it’s something you are going to use everyday, especially multiple times a day, why not keep it out so it’s handy but also make it something you enjoy looking at? There are so many simple ways you can turn practical items around your home into beautiful, useful tools or storage solutions.
This one, though small, is really cute. We use matches throughout the day, from lighting our fireplace to beeswax candles, and we’re always have to reach behind that big mirror for the box where we keep them out of sight. I grew tired of not only having to reach back there for them when we want to light something, but wanted an easy (and not dangerous!) way to grab a match and not have to look at the ugly box. So I went to our old antique hutch in the dining room and found a little glass vase I scored at Target sometime last year. It’s the perfect size and has a large round base to adhere the striking surface with a little double sided tape. Tada! I’ve got a few of them around our home and I think they are just darling way to store our match sticks. It’s little touches like this that can help turn your house into a home. It’s the little things!
For those interested, the beeswax candles are homemade! You can learn how to roll them right here. The candle sticks & milk glass vase were thrifted, and that is dried eucalyptus you see there.
